Minthis Golf Club, Cyprus

Set in the historical grounds of a 12th-century monastery Minthis is the oldest golf course in Cyprus. Originally designed by Donald Steel who was famous for trying to direct play to all points on the compass, the course was recently updated and further improved by Tom Mackenzie and Martin Ebert, who have worked on four out of nine of the courses of The British Open. Minthis, as well as being a resort course is also a Members Club with a number of open tournaments being played through the whole year including the summer where at an elevation of 550 meters there is a cooling breeze off the Troodos Mountains. With its own Academy and full PGA qualified Head Professional, the club offers lessons at all levels. Of special mention is the 5-day package for beginners wishing to try golf for the first time and by the end of which participants can qualify for a ‘Certificate of Competence’.
